About the tipi:

Tom Tabby didn’t get the opportunity to run wild with the great herds that once dominated these lands; thus, this tipi was created for him. The canvas captures a beautiful, glowing sunset across the valley where wild horses run free. The hand-painted silhouettes of running stallions and mares race through the tall grass, their spirits forever untamed. They are together again charging across the plains, chasing down the open horizon, or maybe leading him to his next great adventure, or possibly even carrying him home under a peaceful evening sky.

Learn the Legend

Tom Tabby is the story of a broken hearted Chief who lost his sidekick and namesake. Even though the red stone marker isn’t much to look at, the plaque sitting in front tells the story of a solemn day in 1867 when the sad Chief Tabby carried the lifeless body of his little boy into the Heber Valley and asked Joseph Stacy Murdock to bury him in the “white man’s way”. A compassionate Murdock agreed to let his old friend bury his beloved son in the family plot.
