Tom Tabby didn’t get the opportunity to kill all the animals he would need to make his very own tipi; thus, this tipi was created for him. The pattern is similar to how the animal skins would’ve been sewn together. The stitches are hand painted, and you can see the little boy riding with his bow and arrow on his favorite pony. They are together again chasing down his next meal, or maybe his next pair of moccasins and buckskin outfit, or possibly even his next warm blanket.

Tom Tabby is the story of a broken hearted Chief who lost his sidekick and namesake. Even though the red stone marker isn’t much to look at, the plaque sitting in front tells the story of a solemn day in 1867 when the sad Chief Tabby carried the lifeless body of his little boy into the Heber Valley and asked Joseph Stacy Murdock to bury him in the “white man’s way”. A compassionate Murdock agreed to let his old friend bury his beloved son in the family plot.
